Dot MOBI Domain Name Registrations

More and more people use mobile gadgets to access online content, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is ever growing. To meet this demand, the organization that manages the generic top-level domain extensions, ICANN, established the dot MOBI domain extension in 2005. The first registrations were allowed in September 2006, and the intention behind this extension is that all websites that use it must comply with specific regulations. In other words, all .MOBI websites are required to be built to be opened properly by mobile devices in agreement with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” established by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in partnership with the .MOBI Registry organization. These involve how a web page is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.

The rules have raised some questions since the top-level domain extension is the only one that specifies what devices need to be able to open a website and the way in which this must happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a web page should be designed in such a way as to be viewed by the majority of web browser applications and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

As the dot MOBI Registry does not offer domains directly, you can acquire a .MOBI domain with any 3rd-party company, such as ours.
