All generic extensions and several country-code ones support a security lock feature whose function is to stop unsanctioned transfers of active domain names. Many domain registry operators that manage country-code Top-Level Domains that don’t support this feature are in the process of introducing it for better security and for the convenience of the domain registrants. A domain can be transferred only on the condition that it is unlocked and only an individual who has been given access to the account with the current registrar can achieve that. New domain names are registered with the lock feature enabled intentionally, so as to block any unapproved transfer attempts. The lock option is among the safety measures for controlling the transfer of active domains between domain registrars that have been adopted over the years.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain registered through us is truly easy. This can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our Linux shared packages, and will take literally two clicks. All your domain names will be displayed alphabetically in the Registered Domains section of the Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you’ll see a padlock-like symbol. Click on it once and you’ll notice the current status of the domain name. Click once more and you’ll alter its status. The change will take effect momentarily without the need for you or for our company to do anything else for the status to be ‘refreshed’ on WHOIS lookup websites, so you can proceed with the transfer process straight away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting

In case you’ve registered a domain through us and you want to transfer it, you can quickly unlock it through the exact same Hepsia Control Panel, which you use to administer your semi-dedicated server account. All domain name registrations will be shown in alphabetical order in your account and you’ll notice a tiny padlock-like icon next to each domain name there, on the condition that its generic or country-code extension supports the registrar lock feature. You can see if the domain is locked or not by clicking on this icon and modify the current status by clicking on it again. You can then proceed and initiate the domain name transfer procedure straight away without the need to wait for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup sites, as the update will take effect instantaneously without you or us having to do anything else.
